Problem Employee?

An element of the “business side” of Dentistry most Dentists hate to deal with is disciplining and terminating an employee which is the reason why Dentists are bad at doing it.

Three key points which are critical to the process are,

Documentation - Document everything, leave nothing out, and write with great details.

Review – Meet with the employee and go over the issue and documentation with them.

Time – Setting a reasonable time frame which the employee can improve and when you will take action if they don’t.

I highly recommend seeking the advice of a Labor Attorney for both setting a solid hiring policy, including an Employee Handbook, and a disciplinary & termination policy.

Spending a little time and money before you get yourself into a nasty labor issue is a wise investment!
