Q: I’ve been a dentist for over 26 years and have seen a lot of changes in the profession, what gripes me is the government setting infection control regulations that is overkill and does nothing but cost dentist money and waste of time. There isn’t any evidence that supports the need for such high requirements or that patients are getting infections by dentist. Do you think the government will ever wise-up?
A: There are many things the government needs to “wise-up” to; the issue of infection control regulations isn’t one of them. The prevention of infections and cross contamination is something every healthcare professional is bound to do. The base isn’t about evidence of patients being infected; it’s about being proactive and being on the side of prevention. I am sad to say doctor, it is you and everyone who thinks like you that needs to wise-up. Stop blaming the government for protecting your patients and staff and start taking the responsibility to do it yourself.
