Q: I attended a seminar which the speaker is an Infection Control Expert said it was alright to soak a container of gauze with a disinfectant to make wipes. Is this permitted?
A: Only if the manufacture of the disinfectants allows it and is stated on the label or product sheet. Not following labeling instructions or using the product in which is not intended to be used is not only risky to both patients and staff but a violation of licensing regulations and increase liability on the office.
When it comes to the prevention of cross contamination, experimenting with unknowns for the sake of saving a few pennies is ludicrous. Infection Control Experts should be instructing on how-to use disinfectants and not how-to make them.
