Q: At a seminar, the instructor said that the best way to disinfect surfaces is to use two different disinfectants by spraying the first disinfectant then before it dries spray another on top of the first – is this ok?
A: The method is called “layering”. Keeping in mind that disinfectants are chemicals; before you mix any chemicals you better have contacted the manufactures of the products for their approval. If not you are taking a huge risk of canceling the effectiveness of the products not to mention causing chemical reactions.
It is best to use products the way the manufacture intended; after all they had to pass strict liability requirements that the government had set before the product can be sold. To make sure you are preventing the spread H1N1, MRSA, Hepatitis, Bloodborne Pathogens to name a few, read the instructions and use disinfectants properly.
